Patterns aren’t as mystifying or complicated as they seem and wearing them has become easier and more fashionable as the days go on. Yesterday, a fellow blogger and twitterista posed this question to me regarding patterns:
“What types of patterns are ok to wear? I have issues with patterns. They make me dizzy but sometimes they look nice.”
With the way what’s “in” and “out” changes so quickly, just about any pattern will do as long as you’re rocking the right attitude with it. Some of the “in” patterns right now our big florals, plaids, argyle and I’m pretty sure that polka dots never go out!
Up until recently, I mainly kept my patterns to my shoes because i’m more of a color-block dresser.
But now I’ve taken some greater risks with wearing patterns in my clothing. One of my favorite things to do is mix patterns.
Pattern mixing can be fun but tricky all at the same time. When mixing them, it’s really important to make sure that your colors are matching in all the patterns that you’re using. If they aren’t in the same color scheme, then things can look a little scary and that’s not a good look.
What I’ve found to be the easiest to do is start off basic with some black/white/gray patterns and mix those until you get the feel of the look. Then jazz it up with some color. But the biggest thing is attitude.

Thank you for this!! I too am a solid color kinda girl…and I just stepped away from the blues, blacks, and grays to the beautiful world of actual color. lol. I will have to try some patterns out next.
