BLaCk Bruce WaYnE MANOR: Sports Figures with Style Points

WD-Deion-Sanders

SH Collective’s  Prince of Darkness is back with his words of random thoughts and rambles. He has taken a step back and observed how his favorite areas of Sports & Fashion blend together.

Athletes in the past were looked on as gods for their physical appearance and fluid skill on their respective playing fields. But lets fast forward to the 90s & the millennium, athletes are not just looked on for their overall skill on the field but also how well they present themselves to the media when it comes to their vernacular and presentation whether it be on the sidelines, post game interviews, the red carpet or even as simple as their entrance into the stadium.

This time around, I wanted to pay homage to some athletes who are currently on or off the field for their impeccable sense of presentation of the battlefield. During my time spent recapping the game via Sportscenter, I tend to pay close attention to some athletes and their linens during the post game speech. Some might say, ‘BBW who cares?’ but if you’re making mulit-millions of dollars, you better know how to put yourself together. I know for a fact I would.

I have compiled a list of athletes, former athletes, coaches or athletes turned broadcasters who just always seem to nail it when it comes to style. These sports figures are in no particular order.

-Coaches/Team Managers

Joe Maddon – Tampa Bay Rays – Manager

Joe Maddon

The skipper for the Tampa Bay Rays, Joe Maddon has got to be the first baseball manager with the most stylish eyewear  in all of sports. Even games that are sunny, he is never shy to show off his special edition Ray Bans or Oakley shades while calling games. Anyone who is an eyewear type of individual can appreciate his style. In addition, his style sense is rather of a youthful 25 year old than a 55 year old baseball manager. He’s probably the best dresser on his team which the youngest team in all of baseball with an average of 24 years old.

-Former Athletes/Former Athletes turned Broadcasters

Jesse Palmer – former NFL quarterback & ESPN College Football Live Analyst

jessepalmer

The former quarterback of Florida Gator Nation and New York Giants on ESPN’s College Football Live definitely makes the list for his suit game. Whether he is in the boothe for a Thursday night college football game or analyzing the SEC/ACC conferences on College Football Live on ESPN, Palmer’s suit game just seems to stand out the most amongst his peers on set. I also keep forgetting this was the guy who was on The Bachelor but to me he is just another quarterback that from Spurrier’s system but sucked in the NFL

Marshall Faulk – former NFL running back & NFL Network Analyst

.marshallfaulk2

The former All Pro & 7-time Pro Bowl running back is another athlete turned commentator with a great suit game as well. By being one-third of the team nicked name ‘The Greatest Show on Turf’, Faulk definitely lets America know that he was not only a well sound running back on the field but his football intellect kind of twinkles among most of his peers on The Network. FYI, Jesse Palmer doesn’t come close to adding value to his network as Faulk does for the NFL Network.

Curtis Martin – Former NFL running back

curtismartin

One of the best or maybe the best running back to ever wear a New York Jets uniform, Martin is certainly a player that was prime example of what I have mentioned earlier in this post. He had undeniable skills on the field with rushing records and maintained a style that even Esquire Magazine had to tip their hat by placing him on the best dressed list in 2004.

-Today’s Athletes

David Beckham – LA Galaxy midfielder  (with AC Milan when he’s bored with MLS)

david-beckham-suit

Not much needs to be said here for the international soccer (football as noted outside the U.S.) star. We see him everywhere and you don’t have to be Captain Obvious to know he’s one of the most stylish athletes on the planet.

Alex Rodriguez – New York Yankees -  Third Baseman

Alex Rodriguez

The Yankees’ most controversial and talented slugger has displayed style by all means while playing in the city that never sleeps. Despite his suspect photos from GQ magazine,  AROD not only holds himself well off the field but the current chaser of the infamous HR record is kind of a big deal on the diamond. Let’s go Yanks for 2009!!!

Terrell Owens – Buffalo Bills – Wide Receiver

Terrell Owens

The NFL’s poster child for Egomaniacs, Inc. is also an athlete that can be seen off the field presenting himself in the best way possible either on the red carpets or post game press conference. He falls short in the grace category but he’s definitely earned himself style points over the years.

LeBron James – Cleveland Cavaliers – Small Forward

lebron-james

King James is an athlete that knows the power of being marketable on and off the basketball court. Presentation, Presentation, Presentation!  The pride of Akron will not have trouble fitting into the Empire State with his selection of garments. I might be jumping the gun with the previous comments but Lebron maintains a sense of style while being one of the main attractions of the NBA no matter where he’ll play in the 2010-2011 season.

Dwyane Wade – Miami Heat – Shooting Guard

wade_suit

D-Wade quietly dominates the court and can also be underrated for his overall presentation. Wade makes the list for being the silent assassin on the court from his 2003 draft class and showing off his style while on the sideline during the 2007-08 for knee and shoulder injuries.

“If Jesus payin’ Lebron, I’m payin’ Dwyane Wade!” – Jay-Z

Tom Brady – New England Patriots – Quarterback

tombrady

Tom Terrific seems to be the top sports figure in the U.S. to not be shameful with his sense of fasion by gracing covers such as Esquie and GQ.  The Patriots QB holds his performance on the field and his presentation off the field with high regard.

To all the sports fans, the crew would like to know if there are other athletes from the past or present that represented themselves well on and off the playing field? We’d love to hear your thoughts.

Its actually "If Jeezy's payin' LeBron, I'm payin' Dwayne Wade" in response to a song where Jeezy talks about how he used to pay Kobe ($24,000) for a kilo of coke, but now he pays LeBron ($23,000) because of his rise in status.

In response, Jay-Z states that if Jeezy is paying LeBron ($23,000) for a kilo, then because of Jay-Z's super-status in New York, he only has to pay Dwayne Wade ($3,000).

  8. I ended up getting 8 blind boxes and amazingly only got one double (2 Nibblers) out of them. But I cheated – after finding the vast majority of the characters I desired, as well as the ones I didn’t actually want so much, I made a decision to resort to craigs list to get Dr. Zoidberg
